Percussionist WILLIAM WINANT, founding member of the Abel-Steinberg-Winant Trio, has been described by music critic Mark Swed (New York Times, Wall Street Journal) as "one of the best avant-garde percussionists working today." He has performed at various solo recitals, concerts and festivals throughout the US, Canada, Europe and Japan. He was guest soloist at the 1989 Ojai Music Festival with Pierre Boulez, Director. He is the principal percussionist with the Cabrillo Music Festival, San Francisco Contemporary Music Players, Room (with Chris Brown and Larry Ochs), and Challenge (with Anthony Braxton and David Rosenboom). He has toured with the Kronos String Quartet and Steve Reich and Musicians. He has made first recordings of the music of Chris Brown, John Cage, Morton Feldman, Lou Harrison, Jon Hassell, Alvin Lucier and Wendy Reid. He is currently on the music faculty at Mills College and a visiting lecturer at the University of California at Santa Cruz and Berkeley.
